New Boston

It is 2095 and the United States is a pale shade of its former glory. Many of its states either seceding to the New Americas Coalition or forming the NeoConfederacy, the global influence of America has waned, with the EU, the United Federation of Asia under China's leadership, and the African Federation all holding power over their respective regions.

The sprawling metropolis of former Boston, Worcester, and Providence is the product of the 2090 NeoConfederate nuclear explosion. Former north Boston has been evacuated. A kilometer high concrete wall, 50 meters thick, runs along the northern shoreline of the Mystic River sealing off the heavily irradiated crater from the rest of New Boston. Home to 15 million, the city is struggling to recover from the attack, and the county's former conflict with the New Americas Coalition.

In this political environment corporations reign supreme. Wielding immense economic and political power, they heavily influence the local government. Law enforcement is shared among New Boston Police, and private corporate security forces with their own agenda.

Most citizens work in some manner for megacorporations, as subsidiary companies in a byzantine hierarchy of corporate structures. But there are plenty of individuals that scrape by working on the periphery of the sprawl.
