New Boston Wards

Historically, New Boston has been segmented into 14 wards, each ward having a representative serving on the city council. A mayor, elected in a city-wide election, also serves on the council, primarily delegated to cast tiebreaking votes if needed. After the NeoConfederacy attack on New Boston, Wards 12, 13, and 14 were the most impacted, being the northeastern sections of the city. Ward 14 has essentially collapsed, with a delegation representing the ward in absentia. Within Ward 14, several gangs and warlords have carved it up into various territories, vying for control over respective opposing factions. Both Ward 12 and 13 have a strong gang presence, but occasionally law enforcement is able to enact order (albeit for a few weeks before the gangs regain control). The remaining wards keep a semblance of normal life for its citizens. Wards 12, 13, and 14 directly border the Wall, a huge concrete barrier that separates the radioactive crater from the rest of New Boston. However, the Wall bisects Ward 14 compounding the lawlessness of this area of the city. Wards 12, 13, and 14 have plenty of citizens that make a living scavenging beyond the Wall. While most eventually succumb to radiation poisoning gathering illicit data from the blast site, some are able to stave off the worst effects from continual gene therapy that repairs genetic damage, or utilize remote drones to do scavenge work. Due to the radiation, items are typically transported and manipulated through robotic means in hot boxes, containers and barrier work stations that shield an operator from radiation. While physical items are too radioactive to hold any value, data taken from drives and personal data devices is in high demand. Megacorporations risk severe security threats from destroyed facilities beyond the wall, as source code from servers could be accessed through physical ports. One just has to get out to the crater, or snag a drive and run it back over the wall in a hot box. Because of this, corporations within Ward 12 and 13 also have operations using drones and androids to excavate missing corporate material lost from the attack.
